Young Demosthenes is a popular rhetoric competition for students here in the Czech Republic. It starts at a school level and its winners take part in regional levels. In Dub nad Moravou school it has become a regular December event. Year by year, the number of participating students is higher. The choice of verbal means , gesticulation and other non - verbal means, fluency, contact with audiance - these are the most important things assessed at the speakers.The winner if a lower category _ grade 6. and 7. was Filip Konečný. His speech was very attractive as he told the audiance about his favourite animals - guinea pigs.
Radka Lajčíková, the winner of category for 8th and 9th grade, had a speech about her week day morning. It was very funny and interesting.
Although they did not win at a regional competition in January in Olomouc, we are happy that Young Demosthenes is such a popular competition in our school.
