FUSION

On 17 November 2009 students engaged in the Comenius project and those who are good at Physics and their teachers: Mrs. Elżbieta Marmol (Physics) and Mrs. Anna Sobol (Mathematics) visited Fusion Expo at Physics Institute at Silesian University in Katowice. The traveling exhibition is the property of EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) and the European Commission. During their visit students learnt about various aspects of fusion as an environmentally acceptable, safe and sustainable energy technology. The exhibition explains the fundamentals of fusion, describes Europe’s fusion research facilities, introduces the ITER project, and looks ahead to the construction of a working fusion power plant.

W dniu 17 listopada 2009 uczniowie zaangażowani w projekt Comenius oraz ci, którzy lubią fizykę, pod opieka nauczycielek p. Elżbiety Marmol (fizyka) i p. Anny Sobol (matematyka), zwiedzili wystawę „Fuzja Jądrowa” w Instytucie Fizyki Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Organizatorem międzynarodowej wędrującej wystawy była EFDA i Komisja Europejska.
Uczniowie poznawali zasadę działania i budowę elektrowni plazmowej. W zrozumieniu trudnego tematu pomagały im modele, plansze komputerowe i filmy, również trójwymiarowe. W trakcie zwiedzania uczniowie uczestniczyli w pokazach generowania plazmy - czwartego stanu skupienia materii. Uczeni mają nadzieję, że bezpieczna i przyjazna dla środowiska energia plazmowa będzie podstawowym źródłem energii elektrycznej w drugiej połowie XXI wieku.

A Piece of Cake Can Save the Life

One of our students is unusual. Her name is Ornelia and she lives in Gabon. She can go to school because we help her pay for the school. Every year during the Christmas time we organise a big event to collect money. This school year Ms. Krystyna Szczęsny, our Polish teacher, gave a proposal to organise “Cakes Breaks”. Our mum and grannies bake delicious cakes and we sell them. Everybody is delighted. Today it was the cheese cake which ”disappeared” as soon as we began to sell it.

Miner's Day

On 4th December Polish people in Silesian region celebrate Miner's Day which is called Barborka after Saint Barbara who is a patron saint of miners. Many of our fathers work in coal mines in Jastrzębie. It is a very dangerous job.

After meeting

From 23 to 26 October 2009 the meeting of Project coordinators’ took place in Krakow, Poland. The biggest was the representation of Czech Republic. New colleagues wanted to learn how we collaborate. Our guest of honour was Caroline Elneus whose school didn’t receive a Comenius grant. Nevertheless, Caroline is very a devoting and inspiring teacher and colleague who wants to share her expertise with us. She also enjoy our collaboration.
During the meeting we discussed our plan, point after point, according to the new composition of the group. We also decided on mobilities.
