A week before Christmas children were very excited because the postlady delivered some parcels from Edewn countries. What a nice surprize! Thank you teachers and children! Merry Christmas!

Barcelona Letters

A new group of Polish young students started exchaging letters with Mrs Mireia Rofin's students from Barcelona, Spain. It was an exciting English lesson when Mrs Anna Orłowska-Zyzało became our postwoman. We are writing our answers soon.

Photo Competition in Kiskunhalas

A local photo competition was organised in Kiskunhalas in November. In the photo you can see the jury Mr István Somogyi and Mr Jenő Ternyák on the right with our Headteacher Mr Tibor Tóth and the organiser Mrs Beáta Kozarich.

Iskolánk fotópályázatot hirdetett meg az ősszel egy nemzetközi projekt keretében HAZÁNK TERMÉSZETI KINCSEI címmel. Célunk az volt, hogy a családi kirándulások alkalmával készített fotókkal a pályázók bemutathassák hazánk sajátos természeti adottságait, jelenségeit, növény- és állatvilágát. Az év végi nemzetközi projektmunkához még szükségünk lesz ezekre a színvonalas képekre, mert egy nagy mozaik készül belőlük.
Összesen 147 alkotás érkezett, ebből 139 művet bíráltak el, melyek a pályázati kiírás szerint digitális formában kerültek a zsűri elé. Külön örömünkre szolgált, hogy a gyerekek 67 fotója mellett a szülők és pedagógusok is neveztek, sőt talán egy kicsivel nagyobb is volt a lelkesedésük.
A szakértő zsűri kiválasztotta a jeligés alkotások közül a 30 legjobbnak ítélt alkotást, és rangsorolás nélkül a diák és felnőtt kategória 3-3 győztes fotóját, melyek közül a diákoké továbbjut a nemzetközi megmérettetésre. Az ünnepélyes eredményhirdetésre 2009.december 3-án került sor iskolánk aulájában, melyen az alkotók találkozhattak a zsűri tagjaival is, Ternyák Jenő természetfotóssal és Somogyi István a Kiskunsági Nemzeti Park dolgozójával. Külön örömünkre szolgált, hogy megtisztelte jelenlétével programunkat Gilly Zsolt, a Kiskunsági Nemzeti Park Igazgatóságának Pro Natura Emlékplakettel kitüntetett természetismereti osztályvezetője. Ezúton szeretnénk megköszönni magas színvonalú, segítő, támogató és lelkes munkájukat.

Wystawa poświecona fuzji jądrowej i reaktorom termojądrowym, które w przyszłości stanowić będą niewyczerpane źródła energii. Reakcja fuzji jądrowej to proces, z którego czerpią energię gwiazdy. Zachodzi ona tylko pod olbrzymim ciśnieniem, we wnętrzu gwiazd, gdzie temperatura sięga 10 milionów stopni Celsjusza. Na Ziemi, gdzie ciśnienie jest znacznie niższe potrzebna jest jeszcze wyższa temperatura - ponad stu milionów stopni!
Na szczęście potrafimy już budować reaktory, w których wnętrzu „płonie” plazma o temperaturze sięgającej nawet stupięćdziesięciu milionów stopni Celsjusza! Umożliwiają to urządzenia zwane tokamakami, w których pole magnetyczne utrzymuje plazmę z dala od ścian reaktora. Energia wytwarzana jest tutaj w procesie łączenia jąder lekkich pierwiastków (fuzji jądrowej). Paliwem potrzebnym w takiej elektrowni są niewielkie ilości deuteru (izotopu wodoru), którego jest pod dostatkiem w wodzie morskiej oraz łatwo dostępnego metalu – litu. Zwykła elektrownia o mocy 1GW zużywa rocznie około półtora miliona ton węgla, podczas gdy elektrownia wykorzystująca fuzję jądrową będzie potrzebowała jedynie sto kilogramów deuteru i trzy tony litu! Wystarczy więc raz w roku dostarczyć paliwo małą furgonetką. Co więcej, jedynym, ostatecznym produktem reakcji jest hel, który nie ma szkodliwego wpływu na środowisko.

FUSION

On 17 November 2009 students engaged in the Comenius project and those who are good at Physics and their teachers: Mrs. Elżbieta Marmol (Physics) and Mrs. Anna Sobol (Mathematics) visited Fusion Expo at Physics Institute at Silesian University in Katowice. The traveling exhibition is the property of EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) and the European Commission. During their visit students learnt about various aspects of fusion as an environmentally acceptable, safe and sustainable energy technology. The exhibition explains the fundamentals of fusion, describes Europe’s fusion research facilities, introduces the ITER project, and looks ahead to the construction of a working fusion power plant.

W dniu 17 listopada 2009 uczniowie zaangażowani w projekt Comenius oraz ci, którzy lubią fizykę, pod opieka nauczycielek p. Elżbiety Marmol (fizyka) i p. Anny Sobol (matematyka), zwiedzili wystawę „Fuzja Jądrowa” w Instytucie Fizyki Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Organizatorem międzynarodowej wędrującej wystawy była EFDA i Komisja Europejska.
Uczniowie poznawali zasadę działania i budowę elektrowni plazmowej. W zrozumieniu trudnego tematu pomagały im modele, plansze komputerowe i filmy, również trójwymiarowe. W trakcie zwiedzania uczniowie uczestniczyli w pokazach generowania plazmy - czwartego stanu skupienia materii. Uczeni mają nadzieję, że bezpieczna i przyjazna dla środowiska energia plazmowa będzie podstawowym źródłem energii elektrycznej w drugiej połowie XXI wieku.

A Piece of Cake Can Save the Life

One of our students is unusual. Her name is Ornelia and she lives in Gabon. She can go to school because we help her pay for the school. Every year during the Christmas time we organise a big event to collect money. This school year Ms. Krystyna Szczęsny, our Polish teacher, gave a proposal to organise “Cakes Breaks”. Our mum and grannies bake delicious cakes and we sell them. Everybody is delighted. Today it was the cheese cake which ”disappeared” as soon as we began to sell it.

Miner's Day

On 4th December Polish people in Silesian region celebrate Miner's Day which is called Barborka after Saint Barbara who is a patron saint of miners. Many of our fathers work in coal mines in Jastrzębie. It is a very dangerous job.

After meeting

From 23 to 26 October 2009 the meeting of Project coordinators’ took place in Krakow, Poland. The biggest was the representation of Czech Republic. New colleagues wanted to learn how we collaborate. Our guest of honour was Caroline Elneus whose school didn’t receive a Comenius grant. Nevertheless, Caroline is very a devoting and inspiring teacher and colleague who wants to share her expertise with us. She also enjoy our collaboration.
During the meeting we discussed our plan, point after point, according to the new composition of the group. We also decided on mobilities.

The moose hunt

Last week (October 12-18) was a big event for most of Sweden's 300,000 hunters - the moose hunt. The Swedish hunters' association said that they planed to shoot more than last year's 83,500 animals because of the increase in the moose population in Sweden. The main targets were this year's calves. Forest owners fear that a too-large moose population will cause heavy winter damages to newly planted trees.

Before the Coordinators’ meeting:
WELCOME TO EDEN – Six schools applied for a Comenius grant in February 2009. Five schools were accepted in July. Ms. Caroline Elneus, a Swedish coordinator decided to help us despite of the fact that her school did not get a grant. In September, all involved schools organised Comenius displays about their partners. Ms Elneus launched a wiki. Soon all teachers learnt how to work with the wiki and since then all partners have been contributing to the jointly created Virtual Eden wiki http://virtualeden.wikispaces.com/ .
The Turkish school has reported a problem with the coordinator of the project.
